Drug Companies’ Marketing Giveaways Sway Doctors

Propaganda works better than you think, according to a USA Today article and the the latest big Supreme Court decision, Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission.

Remember shaking hands with Bugs Bunny at Disneyland? Roughly a third of people presented with a fake ad depicting a visit to Disneyland that featured a handshake with Bugs later remembered or knew the meet up with the ‘wascally wabbit’ had happened to them, according to a 2001 University of Washington study. Even though Bugs is owned by Warner Brothers and verboten at a Disney facility, so it couldn’t have happened.

So, apparently, even just giving medical students pens with a drug’s name on them made the students significantly more favorably disposed toward the medication than otherwise, despite their immersion in classes aimed at letting them rationally evaluate drug benefits.

Drugs Deplete Nutrients

Are you taking Aspirin or antacids on a regular basis?   Then you are likely to be depleted in folate, thiamin, as well as magnesium, potassium, and phosphates.

Oral contraceptives, in newer studies showed that women become depleted in Coenzyme Q10  B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, selenium, zinc, and tyrosine (amino acid).

Lack of magnesium lead to back pain development, anxiety, weakness and in long term, contribute to the development of Diabetes Type II.

CoQ10 depletion leads to lowered energy production (ATP) in cells, including heart cells, causing muscle weakness, etc.

People who take Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec (proton pump inhibitors) have been shown to be depleted severely in vitamin B12 and folic acid, vitamin C, D, Calcium, Zinc, and iron.

Former NFL Wide Receiver Jerry Rice Reveals Secrets to Long, Healthy Career

January 15, 2010 (Las Vegas) — Legendary NFL wide-receiver and three-time Super Bowl champ Jerry Rice scored a touchdown among attendees at Parker Seminars Las Vegas — the world’s largest chiropractic seminar — by sharing all the ways he champions chiropractic. He was joined onstage by fellow chiropractic supporter Linda Cohn, veteran sportscaster and one of the first women to report for ESPN. Both Rice and Cohn are spokespeople for the Foundation for Chiropractic, an organization dedicated to generating positive press for the chiropractic profession, and traveled to Parker Seminars to encourage chiropractors and their assistants to continue delivering natural, quality health care to patients around the globe.

Thinking back to his football career, Rice credits his success on the field largely to chiropractic care. “If I had everything in alignment, I knew I could play my best football,” said Rice. His training routine included twice-weekly chiropractic adjustments which helped his body recover from all the hard hits and countless tackles. Because Rice firmly believed in the benefits of chiropractic, his teammates began to favor this natural care over the medications that trainers traditionally give. “I wanted to set the standard within football,” said Rice. “I knew if chiropractic helped me put up outstanding numbers, it could help my teammates do the same.”

And Rice’s accomplishments are indeed a testament to chiropractic: he was twice named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year, won three Super Bowls, and still holds nearly every record as a receiver. He retired as the league’s career receiving leader. Rice was recently announced as a 2010 NFL Hall of Fame candidate.

The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (FCP) made its own version of a “Hall of Fame” induction by presenting Rice with a medal for his commitment to chiropractic. “The Foundation for Chiropractic is getting the word out there, and [being a spokesperson] is a way for me to give back,” said Rice.

“Chiropractic made football great for me. I was at my best and was always at 100 percent.”

Obesity, Fat, Fructose

Dr. Robert Lustig, Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco, has been a pioneer in decoding sugar metabolism. His work has highlighted some major differences in how different sugars are broken down and used:

  • After eating fructose, 100 percent of the metabolic burden rests on your liver. But with glucose, your liver has to break down only 20 percent.
  • Every cell in your body, including your brain, utilizes glucose. Therefore, much of it is “burned up” immediately after you consume it. By contrast, fructose is turned into free fatty acids (FFAs), VLDL (the damaging form of cholesterol), and triglycerides, which get stored as fat.
  • The fatty acids created during fructose metabolism accumulate as fat droplets in your liver and skeletal muscle tissues, causing insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Insulin resistance progresses to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
  • Fructose is the most lipophilic carbohydrate. In other words, fructose converts to activated glycerol (g-3-p), which is directly used to turn FFAs into triglycerides. The more g-3-p you have, the more fat you store. Glucose does not do this.
  • When you eat 120 calories of glucose, less than one calorie is stored as fat. 120 calories of fructose results in 40 calories being stored as fat. Consuming fructose is essentially consuming fat!
  • The metabolism of fructose by your liver creates a long list of waste products and toxins, including a large amount of uric acid, which drives up blood pressure and causes gout.
  • Glucose suppresses the hunger hormone ghrelin and stimulates leptin, which suppresses your appetite. Fructose has no effect on ghrelin and interferes with your brain’s communication with leptin, resulting in overeating.

Too much fructose will pack on the pounds faster than a buffet of French fries and Krispy Cremes.

It isn’t that fructose itself is bad — it is the MASSIVE DOSES you’re exposed to that make it dangerous.

If you received your fructose only from vegetables and fruits (where it originates) as most people did a century ago, you’d consume about 15 grams per day — a far cry from the 73 grams per day the typical adolescent gets from sweetened drinks alone. In vegetables and fruits, it’s mixed in with fiber, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and beneficial phytonutrients, all which moderate any negative metabolic effects.

Germs and Childhood Diseases are Good for Kids

Just like it’s important to expose babies / toddlers to various sounds, sights, stimuli for brain development, it is also important to expose the child’s immune system to various germs, bacteria, viruses, molds, dusts, microbes, etc.

A recent study finding published in November 2009 by the Northwestern University of the state of Illinois confirmed this, after following 3,327 children from birth to age 22.

“These bacteria and microbes may never result in outright clinical disease but they do play an important role in promoting the development of regulatory networks,” said McDade, who is an associate professor of anthropology at Northwestern and a fellow at the university’s institute for policy research.

To explain the importance of exposure to such microbes, McDade, who has a two-and-a-half-year-old son, likened immune system development to the way Americans promote brain development in infants and toddlers by exposing them to “all sorts of cognitive and social stimuli.”

“There’s rapid brain growth early in life and there are lots of neurological connections being formed, and you need to engage with your environment in order to promote those connections,” he said.

“The immune system also needs engagement with its environment to drive its development, and without that environmental input, we’re depriving it of a necessary source of information that it needs to promote its development,” said McDade.

And with his own child, McDade said he ignores the two-second rule when food drops on the floor.   “I don’t hesitate – I tell him to pick it up and eat it,” he said.

With that in mind, the current medical mindset / health professionals / doctors who teach parents:

  • germs are bad, must live germ-free lives
  • diseases are bad, getting sick is not good
  • antibiotics are the solutions to infections or common childhood sickness because they kill all bacteria (good and bad bacteria)

…are totally misleading, and that’s why more and more children are developing chronic health problems during their childhood or as adults.

Coughs, colds, fever, are GREAT.  They are simply your body’s way to get process these microbes, bacteria, foreign invaders, etc., identify them for future defense, and increase the immune system.  BUT when parents / doctors (out of good intention) suppress these natural body reactions with drugs / suppressants, they suppress the body’s natural immune response.

It’s like putting duct-tape on your kids’ mouths at night so they stop crying. Yes, you may not hear anymore noise, but does that really help their mental development and trust in you, as parents?

Our body is created to be self-healing and self-regulating with the brain, spinal cord, and spinal nerves (the nervous system) as the master controller, regulating all functions of the body, including the immune system.  Chiropractic care helps maintain optimal communication between the brain and the body, hence optimal immune system.

Let your kids get sick, have fever, and colds, and eat food that have dropped on the dirty floor.   Your kids immune system will develop stronger with natural immunity.  Vaccination / immunization are artificial measures that suppress the body’s natural response to diseases.  That’s why children who are vaccinated are more likely to have asthma (14 times more likely), eczema (9 times more likely), allergic illnesses, and chronic auto-immune diseases compared to children who never received vaccinations.  Journal of Epidemiology 1997;8:678-680. . Journal of American Medical Association. 1994; 272(8):593. Winter Abstract supplement to Thorax, 2002; 57: Supplement III.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons calls for an end to mandatory childhood vaccines:  “Our children face the possibility of death or serious long-term adverse effects from mandated vaccines that aren’t necessary or that have very limited benefits.” ~  Jane M. Orient, MD;  Executive Director of Assoc. of American Physicians & Surgeons (AAPS). Nov. 2, 2000. www.aapsonline.org

Are You Destroying Your Body With Lack of Vitamins?

Let’s make this really simple. If you are not consuming at least four servings of fruits and four servings of fresh vegetables a day, you must take or consume a multivitamin. Even if you do consume all those things on a given day, there is a fairly good chance your body is not absorbing all the nutrients or there aren’t much nutrients left in those fruits or vegetables that were raised in today’s nutrient-depleted soil.
If your body is a typical car engine, and you’re not giving it the right fuel, say dirt and vinegar, instead of gasoline, there’s a good chance your engine will break down "from the inside out." Same thing if you were to live on a daily basis, consuming the wrong fuel / food, and expecting a healthy inside.
So the next commonly asked question is, what’s the difference between buying a $5 bucks multivitamin at local Wal-Mart versus other multivitamin that costs more? Skip Mammograms In 40s, Start at 50

On November 2009, the US Preventive Services Task Force changed the decades old position on breast mammography for women. Click here for the full story.  It’s a major reversal that conflicts with the American Cancer Society’s long-standing position. For most of the past two decades, the cancer society has been recommending annual mammograms beginning at 40.
But the government panel of doctors and scientists concluded that getting screened for breast cancer so early and so often leads to too many false alarms and unneeded biopsies without substantially improving women’s odds of survival.  “The benefits are less and the harms are greater when screening starts in the 40s,” said Dr. Diana Petitti, vice chair of the panel. Even for the minority of women with aggressive, fast-growing tumors, annual screening will make little difference in survival odds.
America is the only one that pushes mammograms starting at age 40 every year. International guidelines call for screening to start at age 50; the World Health Organization recommends the test every two years, Britain says every three years.
American Cancer Society and radiologists oppose this change because it means less profits.  That’s the bottomline.  Many Americans are misled to think that mammograms are prevention and will lead to better life quality.
There is nothing about prevention when the only time mammogram will “catch” tumor is when the tumor cells have been growing and proliferating for some time.  To make matters worse, the mammograms itself cause radiation that WILL CAUSE cancer.  Who’s kidding who?   Prevention is to stop the cells from growing there in the first place not waiting until the cells grow there to detect it.
Get it?  DETECTION IS NOT PREVENTION.  It’s like letting your teenagers do illegal drugs and smoke pots freely and not doing anything until you “detect” problems in failing school grades or attendance.
The medical system that teaches people of how mammogram can improve life quality by cutting down cancer deaths is the same medical mindset that kills more than 98,000 people every year with preventable errors. It is a destructive and misleading paradigm.  Detection only works when the problems have been there for quite some time.  Playing “waiting for symptoms” to develop in order to “aggressively attack” the disease is a costly, risky, and stupid game.  And that is NOT prevention.
If instead they invest all this money (raised by concerned citizens) in educating people on how to eat well, balanced nutrients meals, how to exercise properly and regularly, how to think well, efforts to avoid environmental exposures to toxic chemicals commonly found in shampoo, cooking materials, etc.  Now that’s prevention.
Which  brings up the most important question:  American Cancer Society is the worlds wealthiest “non-profit” charity in the world with cash reserves over $1 billion.  What would happen if someone actually finds the cure for cancer?  Would American Cancer Society close down its shop and stop making millions of dollars every year?
For more interesting read, click here to read what Cancer Prevention Coalition has to say about that.  Also click here to read a terrific book by researcher Kenny Ausubel titled, “When Healing Becomes A Crime.” There you will read historical documents showing how there were many people who have cured cancer but were shut down by the American Cancer Society and the FDA.
Our missions at Pangemanan Chiropractic are:
  1. To educate people into the understanding that our body was created to be self-healing and self-regulating, that the brain, spinal cord and nerves control all functions of human body, and that maintenance of physical, spiritual, and mental health is far more superior to the treatment of disease;
  2. To help people get well and keep them well through natural chiropractic care, and help them to live vibrant lives by eating well, moving well, and thinking well.

We serve Anderson, Franklin, Shelby, Woodford, Fayette, Mercer counties and surrounding areas. We provide relief and wellness preventive care for the entire family, which means that you will see brand new babies being adjusted with their parents frequently in the office, kiddos with chronic recurrent ear infections and headaches, teenagers, who (will) grow 3-12 inches in one summer, moms with burning pain in shoulders and major Forward Head Posture, dads with pain and numbness down the legs, pregnant moms with hip pain who want to have good sleep and easier labor and delivery, and active adults who want to get well and stay well without unnecessary drugs or surgeries.

Overweight kids are coronary heart time bombs

(CNN) — Russell Pate was driving through a neighborhood one late afternoon when he noticed something odd.

He couldn’t hear the sounds of children playing. No jump rope patter. No squeals of a bike’s brake. No crack of a bat — just silence.

The streets were deserted because the neighborhood kids were cocooned in their homes, Pate says. It was a scene he’s seen over and over again.

“Now you can drive through entire neighborhoods where you know there are a lot of young kids there and hardly see any of them out,” says Pate, an American Heart Association spokesman.

Pate’s story reinforces what numerous medical studies say: American youths are getting less active and fatter. Medical experts say many of these couch-bound youths are becoming coronary time bombs — they’re more liable to suffer from heart disease as adults.

The coronary time bomb is ticking

Pate and other childhood obesity experts say more American youths are becoming obese because so many are addicted to television, video games, testing and fast food.

Obesity experts say the rise in childhood obesity isn’t new.

The prevalence of overweight children and adolescents between ages 6 and 19 has tripled since 1970, a 2007 New England Journal of Medicine study found.

“Our study suggests that more of these young adults will have heart disease when they are 35-50 years old, resulting in more hospitalizations, medical procedures, need for chronic medications, missed work days and shortened life expectancy,” said Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, lead author of the study.

A study released last November at a Heart Association conference found that the neck arteries in obese and overweight children were similar to those of 45-year-olds. The children in the study also had “abnormal cholesterol” and were said to be at high risk for heart disease in the future.

Pate, who has testified about childhood obesity before Congress, says he can tell how American kids have changed by looking at old yearbooks.

“You see fewer overweight kids,” Pate says. “There were some kids that were overweight in the older yearbooks, but the typical kid was leaner.”
